From Wasting Groceries to Building Bean

Our Story

International students cooking

When we first moved out of India, Pankrit went to Australia and Vansh to Canada β€” both of us navigating a new country, new responsibilities, and for the first time in our lives… our own kitchens.

Like every international student, we were juggling university, part-time jobs, and figuring out how to cook decent meals. But there was one problem that kept showing up week after week β€” grocery waste.

We were each spending $150 to $300 a week on groceries, and yet, every week, ingredients would go bad. Despite trying to cook, plan, and eat better, something just wasn't working. Our fridges were full but our meals lacked consistency, nutrition, or variety. And we weren't alone.

We Thought It Was Just Us...

Until we started talking to others. We spoke to other students, early-career professionals, and young parents. And we kept hearing the same thing:

"I want to cook more, but I don't have the time or energy to plan everything."
"My groceries always go to waste."
"Feeding my family is stressful β€” I wish there was an easier way."

That's when we realized this wasn't just a personal problem. It was a universal one.

Cooking Is Harder Than It Should Be

We started identifying three major groups facing this issue:

  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“

    Students

Struggling with budget, planning, and nutrition

  • πŸ‘”

    Young Professionals

With some money, but limited time and interest

  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§

    Parents

Juggling careers, kids, and the constant pressure to feed their families well

Why We Built Bean

We built Bean to eliminate the stress, decision fatigue, and waste that comes with everyday cooking.

It started as a simple idea: What if a smart assistant could help us cook better, waste less, and make dinnertime easier β€” without the mental load?

Today, Bean is a family-friendly, AI-powered meal planning app designed especially for parents and busy families. It learns your preferences, checks your pantry, and builds meal plans your family will actually enjoy β€” all in just one tap.

Still Talking. Still Iterating. Still Listening.

A Note From Us

We didn't build Bean in a boardroom. We built it in cramped student apartments, on late-night calls, with half-cooked meals and lots of frustration.

We built it because we needed it. And we're building it for every parent who just wants to cook better β€” without burning out.

Thanks for being part of our story.
